#MakeTheShift - From Hot Markets + Homelessness to Human Rights
Visiting Lectureship in Human Rights - Leilani Farha
Wed, 21 March 2018 | 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM MDT
Leilani Farha is UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Housing. Drawing on her international work, the Special Rapporteur will discuss why housing is the issue of the day for cities around the world. She will provide a snapshot of housing conditions globally and locally, highlighting the tension between the treatment of housing as a commodity or asset and the understanding of housing as home. She will explain the urgent need for a shift in paradigm, and the imperative of human rights based local and national housing strategies to that end.
Leilani is also the Executive Director of Canada Without Poverty, a national anti-poverty charitable organization based in Ottawa. A lawyer by training, for the past 20 years Leilani has worked both internationally and domestically on the implementation of human rights for the most marginalized groups.
