One of the biggest hurdles for Indigenous artists in Edmonton is access to materials to create their art. The Indigenous Arts Movement (I.A.M.) is working to make that hurdle disappear.
Under Goal #1 - Towards True Reconciliation, EndPovertyEdmonton's Road Map Action #2 is to create opportunities for Indigenous people to show and their grow their talent. At a recent community engagement with local Indigenous artists 'increasing access to materials' was highlighted as a main priority. To address this barrier the first Indigenous Artist Supply Swap Meet is being held on April 28th, 2018 at the Orange Hub, 10045-156th Street, from 10 am -3 pm.
We encourage Edmonton's Indigenous artists to take part in this opportuntiy. Come and set up a table with your unused materials and swap, buy, sell, and barter with other artists from the community to freshen up your supplies and find new inspirations.
The Indigenous Art Materials Swap is one of three events taking place from now until June 2018. We will continue to keep you up to date on other emerging events taking place to support Edmonton's Indigenous Artisans.
