Road Map Action 19

Provide free transit passes for agencies to distribute to vulnerable youth and adults.

Road Map Timeline: 1 - 5 Years

EPE Strategy priority alignment: #11 - Make transit reliable, accessible and affordable for Edmontonians.

Initiative Name:
PROVIDING ACCESSIBLE TRANSIT HERE (PATH)

Initiative Lead Organization:
CITY OF EDMONTON OPERATIONS - EDMONTON TRANSIT SERVICE

After a successful pilot, the PATH program was launched for homeless and at-risk youth and adults in June 2017. Users of the program report the impact of access is an increase in safety and the ability to participate in community and life activities (work, medical appointments, school, family visits, etc.)

The program quickly reached full uptake, with 600 bus passes being distributed monthly through a strong partnership between the City of Edmonton Citizen Services, Edmonton Transit Service, and local community agencies that provide drop-in day shelter services to youth and adults that are homeless or a- risk of homelessness.

Additional demand for the passes is currently being tracked.

Information on qualification and the agencies distributing the passes is available here.
