EPE Strategy priority alignment: #7 - Decriminalize poverty.

Initiative Name:
TRAINING TO END STIGMATIZATION

Initiative Lead Organization:
CITY OF EDMONTON CITIZEN SERVICES SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, EDMONTON POLICE SERVICE

Edmonton Police Service is now including Working with Indigenous Communities: Historic Trauma as part of their mandatory training, and is exploring the use of other crime simulators. Over 55% of the EPS has received the mandatory training already.

A committee called Fair for Youth (F4Y) has been formed, comprised of enforcement officers (transit, bylaw and EPS) and organizations serving people that are particularly vulnerable. This group has organized four relationship-building events over the last several months which youth and enforcement officers participated in together.  The group is currently exploring training approaches/models that would build mutual understanding and respect.
